About The Opportunity


We are seeking talented and self-motivated Architects (or highly experienced Part 2’s) to join our dynamic and growing London studio. This role offers the opportunity to work on landmark projects both in the UK and overseas, with a particular focus on sports, leisure and community. About The Company

AFL Architects is an established firm with an international reputation. We operate primarily in the sports and leisure, healthcare and residential and commercial sectors. The London office primarily works in the sports space, with ongoing projects ranging from small community buildings being designed to BREEAM ‘Outstanding’, through to elite sports training facilities in sensitive greenbelt locations and right up to mixed use stadium masterplans. We work both in the UK and internationally, across a broad range of sports and events, and enjoy frequent collaborations with other architects on overseas projects.

Our London studio is situated in Clerkenwell, only a couple of minutes from Farringdon station. Perks include regular socials and events as well as daily free fruit and snacks, and membership of the Manor Gym in Chancery House around the corner.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop creative and innovative design ideas, concepts, and solutions while participating as an integral member of the design team.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across studios, sharing knowledge and contributing to international projects
  • Emphasis on RIBA Design Stages 1-3 is required to meet current workload, including assisting on bids and competitions, as well as concept design and planning applications (but with the opportunity to follow project through to later stages as they progress)
  • Ensure attention to detail in all aspects of design and project coordination
  • Engage with the practice’s sustainability and social value taskforces
  • Takes an active role in crafting presentations and prepares corresponding materials.
  • Takes increasing ownership of tasks within project teams and studio activities.
  • Represents the practice and raise its profile in a positive manner.

General Requirements:

  • Design-focused approach
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ensure attention to detail in all aspects of design and project coordination
  • General understanding of Building Regulations and Planning Legislation
  • Site analysis capability
  • Ability to undertake preliminary design studies
  • Graphic storytelling ability
  • Time management and ability to meet deadlines
  • Sports and leisure/ events experience (or a genuine interest in the sector) would also be advantageous

Software:

  • Revit proficiency essential
  • Microsoft Office / Adobe Suite
  • Visualization tools such as Sketchup, Enscape and Twinmotion
  • Presentation tools such as InDesign and Photoshop
