The AFL team is celebrating already ahead of the start of the FIFA 2022 World Cup as it sees its architectural delivery plans coming to fruition.
The largest stadium, and centrepiece of the World Cup, the Stadium will host the opening and final of the contest which is due to start on Sunday 20 November. The optimised design seats an 80,000 capacity and will provide a world class spectator experience, luxurious VVIP and VIP hospitality facilities.
A stunning piece of building that will have a long lasting legacy in Qatar, the Lusail Stadium’s façade is an elegant, muted gold exterior with each panel over 4m in height, allowing those in the surrounding area to see it from miles afar. The roof, which was created using leading edge engineering and construction techniques, is manufactured from materials specifically chosen to provide shade from the over 100°F heat that Qatar can experience in its Summer, but still allow sunlight to enter the playing arena.
John Roberts, Director of AFL Architects comments, "The developed design and delivery of Lusail Stadium marks an important milestone for AFL Architects. Our involvement on this project represents the pinnacle of our international journey so far, and our team has impressed with their relentless dedication and enthusiasm."
