AFL's entry demonstrated how the vastly improved new spaces contributed to the ambitious, engaging and clear vision for children's healthcare services in the Leicester area.
The project has been variously praised for its concept, the quality of finish and the positive impact the design made on such a locally significant healthcare project. AFL Architects acted as architect, interior designer and design team leader for the project.
"Designed to encapsulate fun, freedom, and imagination within the overall hospital brand of a rocket ship, specific areas have been created for children, adolescents, and families within a scheme that uses adjustable lighting, warm tones, and colourful artworks to create a very welcoming environment with integral wayfinding and discrete, but observable, seating spaces. We thought this was great."

The Best Interior Design Project (Refurbishment) award recognises an
outstanding internal space within a refurbishment project that enhances
the overall experience of patients, staff and visitors.
"To pick up this major award is astonishing. This project will have a massively positive impact on children and parents across the region, and we are so glad the judges recognised the combined effort to live up to this great responsibility. Thank you again to a fantastic client and team for making it all possible."
