Major Development Underway at Stoke City’s Clayton Wood Training Ground

← Back to news & insight

Work has officially commenced on a £12m development at Stoke City’s Clayton Wood training ground, marking a transformative step forward for the Club’s facilities. This significant development, designed by AFL Architects and led by contractors Speller Metcalfe, will deliver a state-of-the-art environment designed to support the Club’s long-term success.

The project’s first phase, scheduled for completion in December 2025, involves the construction of a new pavilion for the first team.

This bespoke facility will feature cutting-edge amenities, including hydrotherapy and cryotherapy facilities, gymnasium, rehabilitation and medical areas, and dedicated dining and welfare spaces for coaching staff. Designed with a low-carbon footprint, the new building will integrate seamlessly with the existing Clayton Wood campus, creating a unified and modern training environment.

"

I love the Club and just want us to be successful,”.

“One of the key roles I can play in that is investing in facilities to help us build towards that success.

“Jon Walters and Narcís Pèlach are beginning the process of enhancing the culture within our Club.

“Add that to high-quality facilities like this one and the fantastic support we get from our fans, and that can be a recipe for success.

“We want to be more successful than we’ve ever been in the past. We realise that’s a very long-term aim with a lot of building blocks along the way to achieving that.

“This project is one of those building blocks starting to take shape, one that we believe will help create an elite sporting environment, will help us attract the right players at first team and Academy level and will give our coaches the best environment in which to develop players and ultimately make us successful."

Once the first phase is complete, the second phase will see the refurbishment of the existing pavilion.

The updated facility will cater exclusively to the Club’s Category One Academy and women’s team, ensuring a dedicated space to nurture the next generation of talent and support the growth of women’s football.

Representing Stoke City’s largest financial investment in a single project since the construction of the bet365 Stadium in 1997, this development will elevate the performance, recovery, and training capabilities available to Potters’ players.

"We’re delighted that work has now commenced on site on the new building at Stoke City Football Club’s training ground. This is a major development for the Club, and we look forward to delivering a state-of-the-art facility that supports the players and the team."
