The National Breast Imaging Academy, commissioned by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, has been granted planning permission.
The new development will be situated at Wythenshawe Hospital and will be a two-storey extension to one of the largest and most prestigious breast units in the UK, the Nightingale Centre. It will contain ground floor breast imaging clinical accommodation, a dedicated clinical training facility together with seminar and teaching spaces.
Creating a National Academy will attract trainees across all specialties and ease the clinical pressures at the existing centre.
