Resuscitation Facility Redevelopment Begins at Russells Hall Hospital

← Back to news & insight

At Russells Hall Hospital, transformative work is underway to enhance its resuscitation facilities, marking a major milestone for The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust. Designed by AFL Architects, the project will introduce a resuscitation unit within the emergency department, set to significantly improve patient care and operational efficiency.

Innovation at the Heart of the Design

The redevelopment, delivered in collaboration with the Trust’s Private Finance Initiative partners Mitie and Summit Healthcare, with construction led by Speller Metcalfe, incorporates cutting-edge design solutions to address both present and future healthcare challenges. Key features include advanced resuscitation areas, a dedicated paediatric zone, and isolation rooms to ensure preparedness for future pandemics or outbreaks.

AFL Architects has carefully considered the needs of both patients and staff, creating a facility that combines functionality with innovation. The new resuscitation unit will also feature a digital medicine system, designed to improve the storage, prescribing, and administration of drugs, ensuring the highest standards of care.

"This redevelopment is a defining moment for our hospital, benefiting not only our patients and the wider Black Country community but also our dedicated staff by providing an environment fit for purpose."
Diane Wake, Chief Executive of The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust
"

I’m incredibly proud to be part of this redevelopment opportunity. It’s going to have a huge impact, with advanced equipment optimized to enhance the way we treat our patients – our Trust truly needs and deserves this!

“We can also maximise support for our staff with opportunities to have training areas and most importantly give them a confidence and morale boost with a state-of-the-art environment"
Dr Ahmed Ismail, Consultant and Clinical Director of Urgent & Acute Services

Enhancing Care for Patients and Staff

Beyond its technological advancements, the design prioritizes the well-being of healthcare professionals, offering enhanced training areas and modern spaces to boost staff morale and confidence.

This project exemplifies the power of collaboration and innovation in healthcare design. AFL Architects is proud to play a key role in delivering a future-ready emergency care environment for Dudley and beyond.
